Nerve Stress and Defense
Your central nervous system (brain
and spinal cord) is responsible for sending messages to every cell, tissue,
organ and system in your body. This communication is made possible by your
spinal nerve network. This vast communication network is the primary vehicle
for the Intelligence of Life to express to every cell of your body.
The central nervous system is so important that nature built armor around
it, your skull and spinal column. However even with this inborn protection,
our nervous system can experience interference, injury or disturbance.
We call this damage to our nervous system Nerve Stress: simply a
stretching or pulling tension on the nerve tissue itself (think of a rubber
band).
Studies show that even a slight stretch of a nerve of around 6% can decrease
its function by as much as 70%! Defense is the state of your body
being stuck in stresses from your past. Have you heard the term,
“fight or flight?" That is the emergency mode of your body.
When you are under severe stress or you health or safety is threatened
in some real or imagined way, you go into Defense in order to deal with
the threat. Blood pressure increases, muscles tense, breathing becomes
fast and shallow. Your organ function also undergoes changes.
Systems not considered as necessary for your immediate survival are basically
“shut down” until the emergency passes. So systems such as digestion,
long-term healing and others are “put on the back burner” until the crisis
is over. Defense affects every system in your body, especially
your nerve system.
Now
this is all just fine if there is an actual emergency occurring.
But what can also happen is that you can become overwhelmed from a particular
stress or combination of stressors and get “stuck” in this survival mode
even after the crisis is long over. The tension that this causes
to your nerves is called Nerve Stress. The overall state of tension
is called Defense. Think about it. Part of you may be responding
to an emergency that may be over for years! How is this affecting
your health and well-being today?
Nerve Stress and Defense can have devastating effects on your overall
health and well being. Our primary goal is to detect and correct these
imbalances that are interfering with your nerve system and health thus
allowing your body to heal and establish a healthier you.
At Port Center for Vitality, we believe that Defense can have devastating
effects on not only individual health, but on the overall health of our
entire community. Who do you know that always seems “stressed out?"
Their nerve system may be locked in Defense, which may be affecting their
health and well being in many, many ways. Please have them call us
as soon as possible at (516) 883-WELL (9355) so that we can determine how we can
be of service to them.
